How did you attract/address your audience?

There are several elements to our title sequence that we thought appealed to our target audience.

For example, at the beginning of the title sequence, the lights are dark and the titles are black, which adds an ambiguous feel to the opening, which helps add the sense of a dark genre.

Other elements that we included in our opening sequence were, for example, heavy breathing of the stalker over the phone, which creates a sense of mystery and horror, adding to the effect of bringing out our genre to the audience.

An editing element that was made was a CCTV footage of the stalker following Mia into college. Because of the high angle, the short length of the shot, and reducing the saturation so that the shot is black and white, as well as increasing the sharpness, this created a shot of the stalker where it is hard for the audience to recognise who he is, further adding to the mysterious nature of the character, thus resulting in the audience to watch more to find out his intentions and who he really is.

Because our target audience are college teens/young adults, and our genre is horror/thriller, we had many shots in college and had young characters so that the target audience would be able to relate their life with the characters on the screen.

We received generally good feedback from members of our target audience (teenagers) when our title sequence was screened at an art-house cinema, and then later released online on vimeo.com. One audience member said: "I thought it was a good opening sequence. The shots were fast, so I had to pay attention to what was happening."

Another audience member said: "I liked how the music helped me understand what genre the film was. It also made the film more tense which made me want to watch more."

Furthermore, a different audience member said: "It took a while for me to know what was happening in the film." From this we know that next time we need to establish the plot earlier in the title sequence so that the audience will know what is happening in the film earlier and won't be left confused.
